Wool IQ
Is Merino wool itchy?
Not at all. Unlike traditional wool, Merino wool is incredibly fine—ranging between 15 and 21 microns—so it bends softly against the skin. That means no itch, just pure comfort. In fact, it’s soft enough to wear directly on your skin.
Is Merino wool odor-resistant?
Yes. Merino fibers naturally resist odor-causing bacteria, meaning you can wear it multiple times between washes and still smell fresh. It’s perfect for travel, workouts, or long days out.
What does GSM mean in clothing?
GSM stands forgrams per square meter, a measure of fabric weight. A higher GSM means a denser, heavier fabric. For Merino, lower GSMs (like 150–180) are ideal for lightweight summer shirts, while higher GSMs (200–300) are used for warm winter layers.
Can I wear Merino wool in warm weather?
Absolutely. Merino wool is thermoregulating, which means it keeps you cool when it’s hot and warm when it’s cold. It’s breathable, moisture-wicking, and naturally UV-resistant—ideal for summer.
What makes Merino wool better than cotton or synthetics?
Merino is breathable like cotton but performs far better. It keeps you dry, resists odor, and adapts to your body temperature. Unlike synthetics, it doesn’t trap odor or rely on plastic. It’s nature’s high-performance fiber.
What’s the difference between Merino and regular wool?
Regular wool is ticker and will feel coarse and heavy.
Merino wool is finer, softer, and more flexible. It’s suitable for garments worn next to the skin and offers performance benefits like moisture-wicking, odor resistance, and temperature regulation.
Is Merino wool sustainable?
Merino is 100% natural, biodegradable, and renewable. Our wool comes from sheep that regrow their fleece every year. When you choose Merino, you’re choosing clothing that treads lightly on the planet.

How do I care for my product?
Keep your Sir W. Merino garments looking sharp for years to come.
Washing
Merino wool doesn't need constant washing. It's naturally odor-resistant and antibacterial.
When it’s time:
- Machine wash cold on a gentle or wool cycle
- Use a mild, wool-safe detergent
- Avoid bleach and fabric softeners
- Wash with similar, soft fabrics—no rough towels or denim
Drying
Never tumble dry.
Heat can damage or shrink Merino fibers.
Instead:
- Gently reshape after washing
- Lay flat to dry—not in direct sunlight
- Don’t hang wet garments (it can stretch them)
✨ Wrinkles & Ironing
Merino naturally resists wrinkles, but for a touch-up:
- Use a cool iron on the wool setting
- Or simply steam while you shower—it works wonders
Storing Your Merino
- Fold, don’t hang—especially heavier pieces
- Keep away from direct sunlight
- Store clean and dry
- For long-term storage, use a cotton bag (not plastic)
What About Pilling?
Some light pilling is natural—especially with friction.
To fix:
- Gently use a fabric comb or pilling razor
- Never pull pills by hand
- Over time, proper washing will reduce future pilling
